about

In his newest outing, James is looking to define his sound, bringing a unique vision to the ever-popular sound of the 80s. A boundlessly energetic and soul-bearing track, ‘Heartbreak High’ was written and recorded at home by James during the lockdown .
‘When I was writing this track, I wanted to prove to people what I’m capable of as a songwriter and producer’.
As a result, he’s never sounded stronger or more in
control. Most of this track is baked in atmospheric synths,
80’s drums and flavoured with efficacious lyrics. For a music student who has mined so much great inspiration from collaborating with his musical peers over the years, it only makes sense he’d reach new heights with his latest work yet in isolation.
Not satisfied with just having created the song himself, James has taken on the duty of director and videographer. Turning his bedroom upside down to create the footage appropriately into 80s music video James has shown not just his ability behind the camera but also the traits a modern artist needs to succeed. Mimicking the 80s further, James uses a 4:3 aspect ratio with echoes of Talk Talk, Hall and Oates, and Simple Minds. This is not one that you want to miss out on.

lyrics

You keep running away now
You’re the same as like before
I’m doing okay now
Since the day you left my door

I was away
and I always get the blame
And you never said you were with somebody else

Cause you need a Heartbreak High
You try and tell me lies
And it’s such a waste of time
Don’t try those games on me
Don’t try those games on me

There’s nothing to say now
Nothing I say will be heard
I’m out of your way now
You can find what you deserve
I was away and I always get the blame
And you never said you were with somebody else

You were always bad for me
And I wish that they could see
You always make things up
To shake things up
And then it makes things hard for me

Cause you need a Heartbreak High
You try and tell me lies
And it’s such a waste of time
Don’t try those games on me
Don’t try those games on me
